From Lake Charles to the Alexandria area, the rainfall is highest. Allen Parish Sheriff Doug Hebert (Doug Hebert) told KALB TV that the highway 165 north of Oberlin was impassable. An estimated 500,000 utility users in Louisiana have outages, and many Louisiana residents will use generators to keep refrigerators cool and run air conditioners. Ashley Rodrigue, a spokesperson for the National Fire Service, said that the generator should be at least 20 feet away from your house and never plug the generator into a wall outlet, as this may cause a fire. Rodrigue said that generator users should use heavy-duty outdoor extension cords to plug electrical appliances into the generator.
The highest wind speed recorded last night was Lake Arthur, 96 miles per hour. The wind speed in Lake Charles is 95, 90 mph in New Iberia, and 89 in Jennings. Preliminary data shows that the wind speed in Opelousas and Lafayette is 75 miles per hour, and the wind speed in Alexandria is 63 miles per hour.
