French President:France will not accept an unequal EU-US tariff agreement

On June 27 local time, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France cannot accept a tariff agreement that is not equivalent to its own interests.

He emphasized that France “must use all means to respond to the U.S. tariff measures” and supports reaching a “rapid and pragmatic” solution with the United States on tariff issues. Macron pointed out that the ideal tariff agreement should be “zero tariffs for zero tariffs” to achieve fair and mutually beneficial trade relations.

Macron said that if the United States maintains a 10% tariff, Europe will have to impose equivalent response measures on U.S. industries to safeguard the economic interests of the European Union.
