Norway’s plug and power standards

Norway uses the Type C and Type F electrical plugs and sockets, aligning with most continental European countries.

  1. Plug Types:
    • Type C (Europlug): A two-pin plug with round prongs (4.0–4.8 mm in diameter), commonly used for low-power devices.
    • Type F (“Schuko“): A two-pin plug with side grounding clips, designed for higher-power appliances.
  2. Voltage and Frequency:
    • Voltage: 230 V (±10%), standardized across Norway.
    • Frequency: 50 Hz.
  3. Socket Compatibility:
    • Type C plugs fit into Type F sockets, but Type F plugs may not fit into Type C sockets due to their grounding clips.
  4. Safety Standards:
    • Norwegian sockets comply with the EU’s harmonized CEE 7/4 (Type F) and CEE 7/16 (Type C) standards.
    • Grounded appliances (e.g., washing machines) typically use Type F for safety.
  5. Travel Adapters:
    • Visitors from regions like the UK, US, or Asia will need a plug adapter.
    • Norway does not use Type A/B (North American) or Type G (UK) plugs.
  6. Voltage Compatibility:
    • Most modern electronics (e.g., laptops, phones) support 100–240 V, but always check device labels.

Norway’s infrastructure ensures reliable power delivery, making it traveler-friendly for those prepared with the right adapters.
